Anyone know any good orthodontists/dentists that offers free consultation (first visits) on braces in or near the Toronto area (include scarborough, north york etc.)? I've had a free friends who recommended me some but did not like their dentists.

Most orthodontists or dentists who practice orthodontics will allow a first visit at no charge. This will give you a feel for the office and a general discussion about whether you need braces, a general idea of costs and have you schedule further appointments for assessment and treatment planning. These appointments do cost.
When you consider who you want to go to see, you need to take into account how good you feel your friend's dentists did the job, how difficult your case is, if the office hours suit your needs, if they are available if you have an emergency.
Toronto orthodontists are listed in the Yellow Pages. As well, many general dentists practice orthodontics and will have advertisements for it. 60% of all orthodontic treatment is done by general practitioners or pediatric dentists, so keep that in mind when choosing. 80% of cases are not too difficult and can be done by a general dentist too.
