How do orthodontists put in spacers?

I know this is a silly question, but I have to get spacers...in 2 days. And when we got a second opinion, he said that my back teeth were near perfect. And if that was the case wouldn't that be hard?

How do orthodontists put in spacers?
Rubber spacers are inserted between your teeth to make room around your tooth. I don't know what you mean by "near perfect" but it shouldn't be hard for your orthodontist to insert the spacers because there is a nifty tool they use to do it. And spacer's just create space between your teeth, just enough to do what the ortho needs to do, it won't damage your teeth or make your smile any less beautiful, so there shouldn't be too many reasons to argue over having them inserted--one reason to argue is if you aren't having any "hardware" fixed to ur teeth (like braces).

When I got braces, they put spacers between my molars and it was only a dull ache that tylenol or IBprof fixed in no time.
Reply:Don't worry. It doesn't hurt. Just a LITTLE bit. They are small rubber bands that they put on a little tool so the rubber band gets right in the middle of two teeth.
Reply:usually they just put like some elastic bands between your teeth to push them apart. Some dentists use a little metal piece. That way they can put the band around your teeth more easily.
Reply:they sorta push them in, and it feels like you have a piece of food between your teeth that you cannot take out. and they REALLY make your mouth sore. they hurt more than the braces. o course, i had 16 spacers. if you only are getting 2 or 4, it might not be nearly as bad. good luck!
Reply:Getting them in doesn't hurt. however, after about 3 hours of it, they start to hurt pretty bad. It would be a good idea to take some pain medication and eat soft food.

They usually have an orthodontic assistant do this, but it could be your orthodontist. What they do is take tiny blue rubber bands and stretch them out with the two arms of a tweezer-like tool. The rubber bands are then wedged in between your four second molars. If they can't get them in this way, they put a piece of floss through the rubber band and floss the area they want to put it in. The floss is removed and the rubber band stays.

The purpose of spacers is to make room for your bands. Bands are metal rings that go around your second molars. These can have either tubes connected the the outsides or flat hooks. Usually, the top jaw will have two with tubes and the bottom will have two with hooks.

It'll feel like you have food stuck between your teeth, but after a few days you get used to it. Spacers are the most annoying aspect of braces, in my opinion. You will be very relieved when they're out. Try not to pick at them! If you manage to remove them, the process will have to start all over.

Good luck!
Reply:I had to get spacers last spring and I thought i would be dying from pain but it's not that bad. The dentist just slips it on with some metal thing and hat doesn't hurt, just maybe like there's a piece of meat between your teeth or something. After that it hurts if you bite on it or chew but only for a few days. After a week you don't even knew it's there. One of mine fell off and I didn't even realize it.
Reply:it feels like a big piece of meat is stuck in your teeth that you cant get out and it gets soo annoying that you just wanna take a toothpick and take it out BUT you cant and you will have to deal with it lol

i got my braces off 2 weeks ago and all of that pain was worth it now my smile is priceless %26lt;(^_^)%26gt; lol
