Usually on the first visit, your orthodontist will only do diagnostic work. He/she will take a detailed dental history and medical history, do an oral exam, take impressions to make casts (model) of your teeth, take photographs and x-rays. After this is all done, you will have to wait till your orthodontist makes a treatment plan for you. He/she will present the treatment plan and discuss with you what will be done before he/she proceeds. Not every time there is crowding (close together teeth) will the orthodontist pull teeth. In some instances, crowding occurs when there is not enough space for teeth and there are ways to regain space without pulling. Still, it is best to talk to your orthodontist for the best treatment for you.
