To spread your teeth apart to put in the bands. You'll find that toward the end of it, the spacers will be loose and possibly falling out.

i have spacers right now are they r killing me
Reply:to make a little spce before the band that fits over the first molar is placed. for this band to fit over the molar there must be space around it.
Reply:They put the spacers on so when you get the band put on , it doesn't have to hurt as bad . There will be room for the band to fit with the spacers.
