Is it true that some orthodontists can use Retainers (Essix ones) to straighten teeth instead of invisilign?

I know it would be alot cheaper...but I just wanted to make sure this was a fact. They are clear just like invisilign but cheaper! Anyone ever have this method done before? Cost? Results?

Retainers are meant to maintain your teeth...they don't really make your teeth much straighter. Retainers are also used to fix under bits or widen your jaw...They don't do as much work as braces though.
Reply:Invisilign can be used for straightening teeth a little bit if that is what you are talking about.

Yes they can use that although sometimes its even more money costly wise than metal braces.

I can't tell you an exact cost since everyone had different prices.
Reply:well, the reason invisilign is so expensive is that an new one needs to be made every so often as the teeth move to keep moving them into the desired spots. I would assume that the same would be true for a retainer. just one retainer isnt going to keep moving the teeth. it would take many so I would think it would be all that much cheaper. I have also never heard of this. usually a retainer is used to keep the teeth in place so they dont move during the entire process.
Reply:It really depends on each person. But I think if it is minor changes a retainer will work. Not sure though.
