Dentists orthodontists braces?

Do you need to be referred from your dentist to see an orthodontist? I really want braces and i don't mind paying for them but i don't have a dentist anymore as they only take on school kids and i aint at school anymore, and it takes a lot of time to enroll with a dentist when all i'm currently needing is braces, my old dentist said i could get them but i was put off the idea by having teeth estracted but now i don't mind so anyone who knows about getting referred and stuff let me know !

Dentists orthodontists braces?
You can just look in the phonebook for orthodontists and give them a call to set up a consult. When I needed an orthodontist, my dentist gave me a list of some that she liked and thought were good. And she really recommended one guy on the list- she even sends her kids to him. So, if he's good enough for a dentist's kids, he's good enough for me. That's the only nice thing about a referral- your dentist might tell you who's really good and who to stay away from.
Reply:You don't necessary have to get referred you can call your local orthodontics and tell them to schedule you for an consultation . They do that first. I have braces .. Only you would need a dentist if you want them to refer you to someone that my has a good reputation. What state are you from?
Reply:I don't see why you would need a referal from a dentist. Orthodontists have their own practices. I never got a referal from a dentist.
Reply:Ya my dentist told me to go see a certain orthodontist
Reply:Yes, you are usually referred to the orthodontist by your dentist , since they know your teeth problems.
Reply:You do not need a referral to go to an orthodontist BUT, you do need to have a dentist b/c they will only put braces on you if you have had a recent cleaning and any cavities you have are filled first. You also need to see your dentist during the time you have braces to do your regular cleanings, as this is a service the ortho does not provide. Good luck!
