Help! I was meant to wear my retainer for nights only but stupidly i didnt wear them for months and now my retainer wont fit me! its the one with a wire at the front. my teeth havent moved THAT much, but some teeth have moved slightly.
What do i do? what will happen at my next appointment? help!
Orthodontists and people who have worn retainers...?
The fact that you're being treated free of charge when so many people shell out huge sums for the same treatment
would lead most people to believe that you Should wear your retainers as instructed!
The tax payer is paying for your dental work..
Also for yourself if you do not use the retainer you will lose some of the results of the braces.
I'd ring and go back to the orthodontist and explain. And wear the retainers.
Dont want to sound like I'm having a go but many people would love to have the chance to get what you're getting For free!
Appreciate it.good luck!
Reply:dont worry about it, i was supposed to wear mine at nights only and i did for a week or so then stopped, but i was fine and i dont need it now!
Reply:It is possible that your dentist can adjust the appliance so that it fits again and in the process, put pressure back on the teeth that have shifted. I guess you won't make THAT mistake again, eh? You spent way too much money and time on your teeth to mess it up over retainer compliance!
Reply:If you didn't wear your retainer and you still go to the orthodontist that was a bad move! There is a possiblity that they will have to put the braces back on for a littel bit but I doubt it
I haven't had to go to the orthodontist for 2 years but they told me to keep wearing mine occasionally and I still d o... (mine don't fit 100 percent though so I'm wondering the same thing you are only for me it has been a long time since I stopped having appointments)
Reply:well...sometimes, depending on your body, your teeth might move a lot, or a little, or over time (years in fact) they might move even more. You can get a new retainer at your next appointment, but I think (at least at my orthodontist) it costs more money.
Reply:Yeah. You will need to have a new fitting for a new retainer. Because they are made so they just fit your teeth so even a slight change will result in them not fitting.
Reply:I have to wear my retainer 24/7.
I had mine soaking in listerine one day to get rid of germs after I had a bad sore throat and forgot about it.
I went without the retainer for only 12 hours at the most and when I put it on that night, it was really tight.
Its better now.
When you do go back to the Orthodontist, it is possible that you may have to get braces again and they will have to resize your retainer so it will fit properly.
Reply:you wont have to pay for a new one, but if i where you i would ring up the dentist now and get an appointment for a new one... if it doesnt fit now and you dont go to the dentist it will get worse!
dont wanna lecture but you should do as your dentist says or your teeth will get no better..thats coming from experince.
and your dentist will notice. its their job!!
Reply:i have to wear my retainer 24/7. lucky lot you are
