Becoming an orthodontist?

Okay...I really wanted to go into the medical field but really want kids soon, and people always tell me that it will be impossibe to go through a medical residency with a child. SO, my question is.....would it be better to go to school to become an orthodontist?

And...I almost have my bachelor degree, but what does it take to become an orthodontist?

ALSO....does anyone know the salary and hours of an ortho?

Becoming an orthodontist?
There is no such thing as an orthodontist school. Typically, you would get into dental school for 4 years, and then graduate in the top 10% of your class (very competitive environment), and then apply to an ortho residency. This post-doc program can take 2-3 additional years, and then you become an orthodontist! - That's a total of 7 years after you earn bachelor's degree... pretty much the same time it would take you to become a Medical Doctor!

Can you do all this with a baby on board? Yes!

I am a dental student, and I currently work part-time with an Orthodontist. He grosses about $400K/year, and this is only 3 days a week, with 8-5pm schedule.

Have you considered Pharmacy, Optometry, Audiology programs, etc? Do something that you enjoy, while having a balance as a student and a mother.
