Unless you work in a clinic you wont have a set salary. When you own your practice you take a percentage of the production your office makes. You will have to get your bachelors degree plus four years of dental school then two years of speciality schooling/interning. Helpful skills would be hand eye coordination, you also have to have excellent people skills to help your practice grow with orthodontics because you deal with the same people every month sometimes twice a month for years. I always recommend that patients find an ortho office where the really like the staff since they are basically married to them for the length of the treatment. In ortho the assistants honestly do most of the hands on work, taking impressions, measurements, adjusting bands etc. Hope this was helpful
