Should i trust my orthodontist?

my friends told me not to trust the the time my orthodontist gives me to get my braces off....my orthodontist told me i would be getting my braces off in august.

and its july, then she told me the latest i would get them off would be october.

and im afraid that october will roll around and she will tell me i get them off in a few more months.

i really dont know what to think.

Should i trust my orthodontist?
dont trust him. they said i would get them out 6 months before they actually did. i was so disappointed and to this day i am still disappointed in them
Reply:It all depends on how the braces are helping. That first estimated time is given with "the average" result probably. Since the ortho had checked up and came to the conclusion that you needed more time he gave you another estimate. Depending on how you progress, your time could be extended or earlier. Let nature take its effect
Reply:Where did your friends go to dental school?

You're a long way into treatment. If you don't trust your doctor at this point, it's probably too late.

Orthodontia is not an exact science. You are a human being and your teeth are being moved through bone tissue. They can only move at a certain rate in order for your body to accommodate the movement. Cells behind the tooth root regenenerate, cells in front of the tooth make room. It's an amazing thing your body is doing.

So, if your friends know more about biology than your doctor, trust them. If not....
Reply:are your frends orthodontists?
Reply:Yes you should trust her. Sometimes orthodontist are too optimistic and underestimate the time it will take. But it depends on how your teeth react to the forces of the braces and an orthodontist can't exactly predict when they will be ready. Also, it depends on how compliant the patient is by coming to their appointments and wearing any bands that they are supposed to.
Reply:Be Zen about it. They come off when they come off. :-)
