When an orthodontist says?

Before you get braces on, like when they tell you to set up the appointments to get teeth pulled, if the assistant of the orthodontist says you will probably need braces for a year, is this accurate, or just a guess?????

When an orthodontist says?
dont take they word serious.they told me that I need 2-3 years of treatment and now its 6 years that I have braces.

about extracting some teeth:its a part of orthodontic therapy in some cases, in order to push the other teeth backward in the mouth.for example in people that their teeth and lips are so protrude(we call it bi maxillary protrusion in dental texts).

like most of the black people.

or when they arent enough space in mouth for all the teeth so the dentist choose 1-2 or 4 teeth to be pulles in 1 or both jaws to align other teeth.
Reply:i had 2 get teeth pulled to make room in my mouth (I think ihad 2 much room and wuz crowded)

Now, currently, i do have braces
Reply:Probably pretty accurate depending on the amount of time it will actually take to correct the problem, in some cases it is longer.
Reply:It's pretty accurate because they know approximately how long it will take based on the number of other patients they've seen go through it.
Reply:Completely guessing. True, they may be able to make a good estimate, but until they see your progress, they have no way of guaranteeing that. There's no way to put an accurate time frame on something like that, so I wouldn't get my hopes up too high. If it does only take a year, you're luckier than most. It also depends on how much work you need. If you're teeth aren't that bad, then it very well could take a year or less. There's no definites with braces.
Reply:It is a guess. They can't know for certain until they see how you progress.
Reply:It's pretty accurate.
Reply:when i needed braces they pulled out 4 teeth,BUT THATS BCZ I HAD THEM REALLY CROOKED.trust me.my health teacher said that every time they say the amount of year, your goin to have them onother extra year. For example: if they tell you one year it means 2 years. Its true bcz they told me i would have them 2 years and i had them for 3 years. The same story happened to all my friends.
Reply:I assume that the assistant read something on the chart and did not guess. Why would she? Whenever I send someone to the orthodontist, I get a letter back and it ALWAYS has an estimated treatment time. This is routine and it must also be written in the chart.
Reply:Yes, this is very accurate. They have scean a lot of mouths and they know how long it takes to get them off.
Reply:A guess. Braces could go 6 months either side of the estimate.
