Orthodontist & Dentist Costs / Welfare?

I had braces for years. Our family spent $ 8.000. My mother had a medication that damaged all her teeth. We had to pay $ 30.000 to the dentist. All our hard earned money and all life time savings are lost - $ 38.000. Like a lot of people in the USA we are too "rich" for Medicaid and too poor to can afford high health care costs.

Does a Medicaid / Welfare person get all these expensive orthodontist and dentist treatments for FREE?

If you work hard and save money your hole life, you loose and waste everything.

If you work or don’t work and waste your money like an idiot you get everything for free.

Orthodontist %26amp; Dentist Costs / Welfare?
honestly compared to these costs dental insurance is cheap through my husbands employer we have insurance for the whole family for like $3 a week we have insurance because we know we dont have anything near $38,000 in savings to spend on a hospital bill or orthodontics maybe if some of that $38,000 you had in savings had been spent on insurance you would still have most of it left
Reply:I'm sorry to hear your story - it is truely unfortunate how much dentists/orthodontists charge for some metal brackets in your mouth. But no, if you're on Medicaid/Welfare, I don't think you get everything for free. I don't think they even pay for braces at all, sadly.
Reply:While I feel your pain (and know your frustration), I don't see that there's a QUESTION in here. Did I miss your point?
Reply:In my state, state aid does NOT pay for dentists once a person has turned 21 years old. They do not pay for Orthodontists at all.

My mother was severely handicapped and could not work. Medicaid paid for her to have 4 screw teeth and dentures fitted around them becauseshe had to use her teeth to eat, dress and lift (her arms did not work). Even then, it took various doctor notes and recommendations for the exception to be made.

I am also from a working family and cannot afford dental care for myself, my spouse or my kids. I have done some research and the only option we have is to go to a dental school and pay $50.00 per visit. They have a 6 month waiting list, minimum, at all schools in our county. My husbands teeth constantly hurt because his wisdom teeth are in sideways,, pushing the other teeth out of alignment. My teeth look good from the outside, but are a lil crooked here and there and I have 2 holes in the backs of 2 teeth that cause intermittent pain.

Be glad you had the money to have these problems fixed, even if it was all your savings. I would use our saving to spare us the daily pain if I wasn't already using it to pay yearly property tax on our home.
Reply:No, the people on Welfare/medicaid do not get orthadontic services for free. They do however get very shabby care for immediate dental pain if they are under the age of 21. It has recently came to my attention that they are still giving tetracycline to people on welfare/medicaid. So don't waste your time envying those people. Any medical/dental care they receive for free will only create problems for them further down the line.
Reply:not at all fair.....but health care plans at your work are available to cover these things...

but u hit it on the nail---the system is upside down these days---but this is the american way.!!!!
Reply:Kay,

It is a sad state of affairs!

Most people are in the "too rich for Medicaid (Medicare) and too poor to afford a doctor" category. And what is worse.....the costs for health care are not done rising!

I have found a solution that will help you and your family out.
