Calling all dentists, orthodontist, and the like!?

I want to become a dentist, orthodontist, or oral surgeon. When I enter college do I need to be enrolled in pre-dentistry or should/could I major in something else before I enter dental school? Are there any especially superb dental schools? What do you think I should keep in mind? Is there any specialization that I should look in to? Here is your chance to spill your guts and help someone. Please help me, I want to know everything! Thank you!

you need to register in dental school after your pre med. It takes 4 years %26amp; 1 year residency. After that what every subject you are intersted you can do your PG.
Reply:My dentist majored in chemistry as an undergraduate. It was a great fit for pre-dent because there is so much chemistry involved in dentistry.

UCLA has a great dental school.
Reply:The best thing to do is to shadow a couple of general dentists or specialists to understand what dentistry is all about. You do not need to be a pre-dentistry major. Most dental school prerequisites are similar to med schools so you can major in whatever you like as long as those required courses are taken. A good website is forums.studentdoctor.net and check out the pre-dental forum. Helped me a lot when I was in your shoes.
