Orthodontist Question - About a top retainer?

I am 20, and had my braces removed when I was about 15 years old. I currently have a removable top retainer that I have worn for the past 5 years. For most of the last 2 years, I have worn the retainer about 4 nights per week, and it has worked fine and fit fine. However, I just saw my Ortho one day before I left for college, and he decided to tighten it for me. Well, now, it hurts more than I could ever imagine when I wear it, and it feels like it is shifting my teeth, which previously were perfect.

It also feels like my retainer is now too small for my mouth. And the plastic does not come close to touching the roof of my mouth.

Is this normal? Or did my orthodontist mess it up? Should I continue wearing it? He told me to wear it day and night for a week and see where I am then, but I can't wear it during most of the day. I have worn it every night for the past few nights and it is still hurting like hell. Please help!

Orthodontist Question - About a top retainer?
The best thing to do in contact your ortho and tell him right away so they can fix the problem. It sounds like your teeth have shifted a little bit!
Reply:Go back and see the Orthodontist it sounds like it has been over tightened or got bent and needs some adjusting.
Reply:sounds like he messed it up, its supposed to fit flush against the roof of your mouth, snugly, he may have thrown it off so it is not a perfect fit for you anymore, see another doc, right away.
Reply:i would call up your orthodontist,

tell him your problem,

he'll tell you what to do,

and probably schedule an appointment for you.
