I went to the orthodontist last year and I didnt have all my baby teeth out yet so they said that they wanted to see me in 1 years time, but they also told me I didnt need braces! So I went yesterday and they told me Im getting braces! Im 14 and just really nervous about getting them! :(
Are traintracks all that bad? Are they sore? How long do you normally need them in for?

Orthodontist just told me i need braces! Ahhhhh! :(?
its not bad :). i got mine like a month ago and i got the clear kind with the wire and people are always saying they cant see them. im 13 by the way. anyways. they just put this thing in your mouth to hold your cheeks back and they have to have your teeth dry. then they put glue stuff on em and put the brackets on on them. then they give you a break and then put in the wire. i didnt even feel them doing anything.well obviously i knew they were doing it but like you cant feel it. they might hurt a little after you get them on for the first week or two. thats how mine were. and you will DEFINATELY need some dental wax to put on them. but after all that is over you dont even think about having them. i thought i looked and felt horrible in mine but you really just look like every other teenager on the planet. plus its better to get them on early in life..i have to have them for 2 years though. so ill get em off at 15. i might not even need them that long cause sometimes they take them off early.the average is 2-3 years though depending on your teeth. but if you follow there tips and what you should do youll get them off sooner.umm for advice id say take medicine before you go cause later theyre gonna be sore. good luck with everything :)they arent so bad haha :))
Reply:No they aren't that bad. I can't say how long you will need to wear them for. That will depend on your specific problem and your compliance. It is really important to wear, rubber bands or head gear as your orthodontist recommends. If you are non-complaint it will take alot longer.
You can have some soreness at first but it's not bad. Just always keep in mind what beautiful teeth you will have when you get them off.
Reply:It's not that bad at all. I just got mine in last week and the soreness is starting to wear off. Take some ibuprofen before you get the braces in because after 2 hrs or so, your gums will start to feel sore.
Also, I got the clear ceramics with a metal wire and people said they didn't even notice I have braces until I mentioned that I do have them. So if you're worried about them being noticeable, ask for clear ceramics (more pricey tho!).
Depending on how your teeth look, we can't tell you how long it will take. Only your Orth. can tell you based on his/her examinations. Some have them on for a year and some people can have them for up to 3 years. It varies.
I was nervous about getting them too, but I realized that it's all going to be worth it in the end. I'm already looking forward to my 1st braces tightening...
But good luck!

braces aren't really all that bad. alot of people have braces so its not like you would be considered a geek for having them. Unfortunately they will make you mouth a bit sore, and the soreness will last for a bout a week. But my dentist gave me this little box with wax which helped the soreness ( i hardly felt anything at all). Most people need them for 2-3 years. Sadly I had them for five years. This was bc i had bad teeth lol. But at the end its totally worth it.. trust me :)
Reply:No, they are not as bad as people make them out to be. After awhile you might even like them. Your mouth will be sore a few days afterwards, but you can take advil or tylenol to help with the discomfort. They *say* three years. I had braces for six years. It's a long process depending on what you have to have done but in the end it's worth it.
