I am aware that orthodontists have nice lifestyles, are paid well for the procedures they perform, and do not have to spend very many years in residency for the specialty (~2 years). As a DDS they avoid dealing with the drain that malpractice coverage and insurance companies dish out. Overall it sounds like a rather nice deal. The only question I have is whether or not it is as fulfilling, stimulating, or interesting as medical specialties. I know that there is a lot less hassle involved with orthodontia but are orthodontists as happy with their lives? Is it worth putting up with some of the painful annoyances of radiology or anesthesiology or even a surgery specialty because work is more interesting?
Is it better to become an orthodontist or a radiologist....or some other specialized md?
FYI EVERY AND ANY MEDICAL PROFESSION REQUIRES COVERAGE FOR MEDICAL MALPRACTICE.
ALL MEDICAL PROFESSIONS HAVE TO DEAL W/THE ISSUES BEHIND INSURANCE.
Reply:It's completely up to what you want from life. If you are interested in a particular aspect of medicine, it is likely you will enjoy a job in that career and not mind so much the downfalls of that profession. If you think the downfalls of a job are too much in comparison to the enjoyment you can reap from the job then consider another.
I think if you enjoy a job enough you dont mind so much less pay or other factors.
Reply:Sounds like you've chosen the DDS already - my opinion would be based on if you like working with people - patients - that would be your choice, because most radiologists basically sit and read films, not so much interaction with patients on a personal level.
Myself, I would choose radiologist, because I like to figure out problems, what the symptoms mean, what the films show, and I'm not all that social. :)
Reply:It's better to become a prothodontic!!!
Reply:surgical dentist! Thats where You will make a good living! If you have ever been 2 one they make you sign wavers before they even start working on you. Plus if you dont have dental insurances its all cash up front! Or Credit cards But your limit has two be quite high. I had nine teeth removed and it cost me $3200.00 !
Reply:Orthodontists have it made. No blood, fun atmosphere. The office is a big open bay where are they patients are there together. The assistants do most of the work. Young people who are more fun to be around. Fridays off! Great paycheck. Lots of new people everyday. People are happy when they finish, and very thankful to you. Who'd want to work in a hospital all day?
